SCHOOL-BASED NURSE - EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN

Full Time Temporary Position dependent on student's enrollment at ACS

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Certification/License Required: LPN or RN

Experience: 3 years of successful nursing experience; pediatric preferred

Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities; ability to lift a student up to a weight of 40 pounds without assistance; ability to perform a two-person lift for students over 40 pounds;

 Proficient Skills: Written and oral communication, planning, organization

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  2. Performs appropriate assessment procedures.
  3. Interprets assessment results to teachers, parents and other personnel.
  4. Administers nursing services in accordance with the health care plan as stated in the individual education plan and as ordered by physician.
  5. Performs ongoing evaluation of treatment programs and adapts programs as necessary to maximize results.
  6. Recommends and advises schools and teachers regarding appropriate sanitary procedures for specific students.
  7. Monitors restrictive diets as directed by physician.
  8. Consults with student's physician regarding medical management and therapy suggestions.
  9. Maintains records and reports.
  10. Lifts, positions, transfers, and performs other special duties as required to meet the needs of moderately intellectually disabled, severely and profoundly intellectually disabled, and orthopedically impaired students.
  11. Accompanies student requiring constant observation, care and assistance due to a highly dangerous physically limiting and/or behavioral disability; accompanies the student at all designated times, assisting with personal care needs, mobility, motor skills, behavioral management and de-escalation techniques as necessary to protect the student or others from injury. 
  12. Assists students in meeting basic daily needs such as feeding, personal hygiene, special medical procedure/equipment, and administering medications.
  13. Assists students with daily living skills (i.e. toileting, feeding, diaper change, etc.)

 

  1. Administers and/or supervises the administration of medication, therapy and/or other special treatment required by the student; maintains records of all treatment.
  2. Assists classroom teacher in the implementation of the students’ IEPs.
  3. Maintains confidentially of all student information.
  4. Maintains accurate records of services provided.
  5. Use various assistive technology equipment and augmentative communication devices to assist students with school-related activities (as needed).
  6. Maintains daily work log and keeps records of student progress and communicates with teacher; assists classroom teacher as the situation warrants.
  7. Participates in staff development as directed, and all other duties as assigned.
