Temporary Full-time position

 

General Statement of Job

To provide quality instructional coaching and support for K-5 Teachers which will assist them in meeting the instructional needs of and increasing the academic performance of elementary children in the Alexander County School System.

 

Required education/experience

  • Licensed by the state of North Carolina.
  • Master’s degree or National Board Certification required.
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience with evidence of master teacher performance in the classroom required.
  • Proven instructional coaching experience.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Facilitate the implementation of the state adopted standards through ACS Curriculum.
  • Diagnose curriculum needs and facilitate improved instruction through coaching of teachers either individually or in groups.
  • Provide instructional support for teachers or groups of teachers as they implement the system-wide and school-based curriculum.
  • Help teachers transfer new practices or programs into effective classroom practices with fidelity.
  • Provide ongoing professional development based on identified teacher/grade/school needs.
  • Help teachers to effectively utilize system-wide and state-provided curriculum resources, with specific experience in Schoolnet.
  • Help teachers implement and effectively use district and state assessments to assess mastery and guide instruction of students.
  • Help teachers determine strategies to differentiate instruction to maximize the academic performance of all students.
  • Establish an inviting, safe system of support in which teachers can seek assistance in improving their teaching practices.
  • Assist with the selection of instructional resources.
  • Meet regularly with necessary school personnel to develop, implement, and communicate instructional initiatives.
  • Consistently seek and participate in personal staff development to ensure knowledge of best practices and research-based methodology and programs.
  • Experience with MTSS and the ability to support fidelity of implementation.
  • Knowledge, experience and ability to support the implementation of 21st Century Learning such as STEM, and the Four C’s of 21st Century Education.
  • Maintains and respects the confidentiality of students and school information.
  • Follow the processes in ACS with fidelity and be a collaborative team member willing to offer input and ideas for enhancing existing practice.

 

Additional duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and associate superintendent.

 

Essential knowledge and abilities

  • Knowledge in all areas of the K-5 Curriculum & Instruction with specialized degree/training/knowledge in reading instruction.
  • Knowledgeable of North Carolina assessments (formative and summative).
  • Ability to conduct in-service staff development for teachers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and communicate effectively with district administrators, principals, teachers, and parents both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to disaggregate, interpret and analyze data.
  • Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things.
  • Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants.  Also includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from supervisors.
  • Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, and counseling terminology.
  • Attention to detail, timely communications and strong organizational skills.
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, etc.
  • Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
